Stages of sleep
Stage 1 of Sleep: Light sleep
Light sleep is experienced in this stage. Breathing is regular and you are easily woken up. There is some light eye movement and this is the stage where limbs may jerk unexpectedly.
Stage 2 of Sleep: Body slows down
This stage is characterized by a general slow down of the body. Your heart rate and body temperature begin to decrease. As you move into a deeper sleep cycle, brain waves slow down and are said to look like a “saw tooth.”
Stages 3 and 4 of Sleep: Deep sleep
Our brain slows to delta waves in these sleep stages. This is considered the restorative phase of sleep and is critical for healing and regeneration. A sleeper is much more difficult to wake at this point in their cycle. If woken during this period the sleeper will be groggy, tired, and moderately impaired.
Stage 5 of Sleep: Rem
Dreams mostly occur in the rem stage of sleep. Under eeg, our bodies have similarities to being awake except our muscles are paralyzed. This is believed to happen to prevent us from acting out our dreams. We experienced rapid eye movement (rem) and have our most vivid dreams. If waking up during this cycle, you are more likely to remember your dreams.
Sleep cycles
Sleep stages repeat through the night
We cycle through these stages throughout the night. Rem typically occurs after the first 4 stag or around 90 minutes after falling asleep. The first rem cycle is the shortest but gets longer as the night progresses. The last rem at the end of the evening is where the Longest and most vivid dreams occur.
How to control your dreams
First, you need to draw a dot on each of your thumb knuckles, like so…
Now about every couple of minutes until you go to sleep, look down at your thumbs and say “I am not dreaming” so your brain fully remembers the two dots on your thumbs. Before you go to sleep, keep reminding yourself that there are two dots on your thumbs.
When you fall asleep, (the hard part) try to look at your thumbs in the dream.
When you see your thumbs have no dots on them, you will know that you are dreaming. You may wake up because usually when you know you’re sleeping, you wake up. It may take a few days to stay asleep when you see you have no dots.
When you can finally control your dreams, you can do whatever the fuck you want, kinda like inception. It is awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Lucid dreaming
How to lucid dream in 5 minutes:
Lay down and go to sleep. This works best if you are extremely tired. Lay on your back with your arms at your side and eyes closed. Stay perfectly still. You must stay awake. Your brain will send signals to your body to see if you are ready to sleep. These signals include: getting an itch, changing your body position, wanting to blink or move your eyeballs (remember your eyes should be closed).
You must ignore all of these impulses. After about 20–30 minutes you will feel a weight on your chest; you may even hear weird noises. You are now in sleep paralysis, if you open your eyes you will begin to hallucinate (dream with your eyes open) and you will not be able to move your body. Your body is now completely asleep. Now that you are aware you are dreaming, you can shut your eyes and begin to dream instantly. You will be fully aware you are dreaming and can now (with some practice) control your dreams.
